Measuring the three dimensions of a mattress is not easy. It is an upholstered item hence it is subject to fluctuation depending on where it lays when it is
measured.
To make sure you get a mattress that matches the size of the bed you own, a good tip is to read the bed manufacturer’s instructions, which should state the
recommended dimensions of the mattress for your bed frame. If you do not have these instructions, measure the bed base with a rigid tape measure. If you do not have the bed base either, measure the mattress you own by placing it on an even and hard surface, possibly on the floor, taking care not to press on the mattress itself.
To measure the mattress’s thickness correctly, place a rigid rod on top of the mattress so that it protrudes from both sides and measure the space between
the floor and the rod on both sides. Mattresses have a nominal measurement that advances by 5 cm so measurements such as 182 – 97 cm or similar should be taken to the next lower measurement so 182 cm will be 180 cm while 97 cm will be 95 cm.
